Nitin Gadkari launches Khadi footwear, says people will like these products

The launch comes following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Vocal for local' initiative.

New Delhi: Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Nitin Gadkari on Monday (October 26, 2020) launched the Khadi Fabric Footwear which has been designed by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). The Minister expressed that people will like the Khadi Fabric footwear that has been designed for men and women.

The footwear has reportedly been launched in 15 designs for ladies and 10 designs for men and exquisite Khadi products like Patola Silk of Gujarat, Banarasi Silk, Madhubani-printed Silk of Bihar, Khadi Denim, Tussar Silk, Matka - Katia Silk, a variety of Cotton fabric, Tweed Wool and Khadi Poly Vastra have been used to make the footwear unique and trendy.

Available in a wide range of designs, colors and prints, the footwear has been designed to suit clothing for all purposes - formal, casual and festive occasions. The Khadi footwear price ranges from Rs 1100 to Rs 3300 per pair.

Gadkari had also launched the online sale of Khadi footwear through KVIC’s e-portal www.khadiindia.gov.in on October 21 and had praised Khadi fabric footwear saying such unique products had high potential of capturing the international market.

The launch comes following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Vocal for local' initiative which he also mentioned in his 'Mann Ki Baat' address to the nation on Sunday and said, "When we are going vocal for local, the whole world is also becoming a fan of our local products.

"Many of our local products have the potential of becoming global. One such example is Khadi. Khadi has remained a symbol of simplicity over a long period of time but now our khadi is getting known as an eco-friendly fabric. In terms of health, this is a body-friendly fabric, an all-weather fabric and now it has also become a fashion statement," said PM Modi.

This is to be noted that the overall sale at the Khadi's Delhi's Connaught Place outlet recorded over Rs 1.05 cr on October 24, surpassing Rs 1.02 cr on October 2.

Earlier on Sunday, PM Modi in his 'Mann Ki Baat' address had also talked about a Mexican place and said, "Not only is the popularity of khadi rising it is also being produced in many places of the world. There is a place in Mexico called Oaxaca, there are many villages in this area where the local villagers weave khadi. Today the khadi of this place has gained popularity by the name Oaxaca Khaadi."

He added, "How khadi reached Oaxaca is no less interesting. In fact a young person of Oaxaca, Mark Brown once watched a movie on Mahatma Gandhi. Brown got so inspired by watching this movie on Bapu that he visited Bapu’s ashram in India, understood him and learnt about him in-depth. It was then, that Brown realised that khadi was not just a cloth; it was a complete way of life. Brown was deeply moved by the way khadi was intertwined with the rural economy and self-sufficiency.  It was here that Brown resolved to work on khadi on his return to Mexico.  He introduced the villagers of Oaxaca in Mexico to khadi and trained them and now Oaxaca khadi has become a brand.

Major blunder in NEET 2020 exam results revealed, All India topper declared as failed

In a surprising development, the National Testing Agency (NTA) recently declared a topper as failed in NEET 2020 result.

In a surprising development, the National Testing Agency (NTA) recently declared a topper as failed in NEET 2020 result. The student named Mridul Rawat, who failed the NEET 2020 as per the first marksheet issued by NTA, actually emerged as an All India Topper in the ST category.

Mridul then challenged the result declared by the NTA and after rechecking of the OMR sheet and Answer Key, it was found that he is an All India Topper in ST category.

The 17-year-old Rawat is a resident of Gangapur town of Sawai Madhopur district in Rajasthan. On October 16, when the NTA had declared the result, it gave Mridul 329 points in 720. But after rechecking it was found that Mridul has obtained 650 out of 720 marks.

According to Mridul, his All India rank in General Category is 3577.

However, a mistake was also spotted by Mridul in the second marksheet issued by the NTA. In the second marksheet, the sum of of his marks shows 650 but only three hundred twenty-nine were written in words.

In a first, two candidates attained full marks in NEET 2020 exams. Odisha's Soyeb Aftab and Delhi's Akanksha Singh have scored 720 out of 720 marks but Aftab has been ranked first and Singh second as per the NTA's tie-breaking policy, the officials said.

Live: Global Covid-19 cases cross 39.5 million

India has one of the lowest Covid-19 deaths per million population in the world with less than 1,000 fatalities registered daily since October 4. The fatality rate of 1.52 per cent on Friday was the lowest since March 22, the Union health ministry said. Stay here for live updates.

AP reports 3,986 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday taking the tally to 7,83,132. Toll rises to 6,429 with 23 more deaths.

1,152 new Covid-19 cases, 1,079 recovered cases reported in Bihar in the last 24 hours.

The total number of positive cases stands at 2,04,212 till date, including 1,92,594 recovered cases, 10,621 active cases & 996 deaths: Bihar govt.

3,299 new cases, 28 deaths and 2,863 recoveries/discharges/migrations reported in Delhi today.

No fresh lockdown should be imposed on district or state level to contain the spread of Covid unless there is imminent danger of healthcare facilities being overwhelmed: Government-appointed committee chaired by IIT Hyderabad professor M Vidyasagar.

A case has been registered against Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla and 32 others in Bayana police station for holding Mahapanchayat in Bharatpur yesterday in violation of Covid-19 protocols.

Two Covid-19 vaccines stalled by potential side effects have one key feature in common: Both are based on adenoviruses, cold germs that researchers have used in experimental therapies for decades

China’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention said it found active Covid-19 virus on the outer component of refrigerated food packaging, adding that it showed the possibility of infection via such contaminated surfaces

Covid-19 is additional layer to 'gender equality in education' challenge: UNESCO report

Increase in gender-based violence during the period families spent at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, potential rise in teenage pregnancies or early marriages, possibility of a section of girls dropping out of schools or colleges, girls being at a disadvantage due to shift to online learning and increased responsibilities of household chores, are among the several implications pointed out by UNESCO in the report.

Four inmates and nine jail staffers in three prison complexes of Delhi are presently undergoing treatment for Covid-19: Police officials

Russia reports 15,099 new coronavirus cases, 185 deaths

Mumbai Metro to resume operations from tomorrow after months of lockdown; preparations underway.

India's caseload touches 7.49mn

Active cases in the country stand at 783,311, while 6,597,209 people have recovered from the disease so far: Union Health Ministry
India has exponentially scaled up its testing capacity from one in January to more than 9.32 cr at present. The very high testing has resulted in the continuous falling positivity rate. It has now fallen below 8%: Ministry of health

Global Covid-19 cases cross 39.5 million

The global coronavirus caseload now stands at 39.5 million cases, according to the latest updates provided by Johns Hopkins University. According to the University tracker, there are 39,502,909 Covid-19 cases globally and 1,106,705 patients globally have succumbed to the virus. Globally, 27,148,927 patients infected from the virus have recovered, the tracker states. The US continues to be the worst-affected country due to the virus with 8,086,780 cases and 218,980 fatalities, which are the most deaths in the world.
Daily cases have been falling in India after peaking on September 17, when over 98,000 cases were recorded. The US appears to be in the midst of a third wave of the pandemic.
It seems likely that the US will continue to log the highest number of daily cases over the next few days, with a few exceptions now and then. That’s because cases in the US have been on the rise again over the past month while the count has been steadily decreasing in India.
In cumulative caseload, the US continues to lead the world with more than 8.3 million cases so far. India holds the second spot with nearly 7.5 million cases.
